Farewell to Our Friend, Steve.
His name seems to linger in the air, “Steve Jobs”, the man who changed the world, changed the way we identify ourselves, “MAC or PC?”
At his core though, he was a guy with a dream; a regular guy from California who enjoyed beautiful design and tinkering with technology. He found his mischievous match in friend, and Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniack, together they enjoyed pushing envelope and sought to do something different with their lives.
I’ve heard and read people say all sorts of wonderful things about Steve Jobs since he's passed, praising his preternatural business sense, innovative mind, natural creativity, and devotion to changing the way we use technology.
All of these are admirable and praiseworthy traits, but what I found most inspiring about Mr. Jobs was his tenacity. As any entrepreneur knows, starting a business is never all-smooth sailing. No one knew this better than Steve Jobs. Sure he died the successful founder and CEO of one of the most successful companies on earth, possibly in history, but he also had his own history of failures.
For instance did you know?
- Steve Jobs was a college drop out, after one semester at Reed College, he lived on friends’ couches and floors for 2 years before saving and raising enough money to build the first Apple computer
- After completing two Apple models and having a strong IPO and listing on the Fortune 500, the company’s consumer model, The Apple III was full of technical problems and had to be scrapped. It was not until years after, that Apple launched their consumer model.
- Steve Jobs was FIRED from his own company in 1985.
Through all these rather unsettling times, he managed to follow his heart, stay brave, never give up and achieve great success. He started new companies like NEXT and Pixar and eventually ventured back to the helm of the company he brought to life, to make it one of the most valuable companies of the 21st century.
Steve Jobs is truly an inspiration to all entrepreneurs; I encourage everyone to learn more about his life, legacy and contribution to the world.
